The unforgettable Laura Cotesta – A legacy continues at Lockerby Composite High School

There is no doubt that Laura's spirit continues to thrive at Lockerby.

Most of the current participants in the cancer drive were not even born when Laura was alive.  Yet we share, year after year, in this mystical journey together by virtue of what she started.

This is remarkable…. generations of students continue supporting local cancer care in Laura’s memory with smiles on their faces and Viking pride in their hearts.

Laura also helped us all to understand the fragility of life, to accept that sometimes we have no control.

She is a ray of sunshine spreading the word to ensure that even through adversity we enjoy the small things in life, spend as much time as we can with the people we love, and most of all not live in fear, live each day to the fullest and find peace even in the most challenging circumstances.

Every day is a gift.

Remember:

“After a raging storm…the sun covers the storm and shines brighter than we’ve ever known it to shine.”

LAURA’S BOOK

The Sun Will Shine chronicles Laura Cotesta's decade long battle with a rare spinal cord tumour, from childhood to adolescence, in her own words. Her words are taken from personal journals, essays, and school assignments, in which Laura reflects on her illness, reaching the conclusion that through adversity, one can embrace both life and death, and find peace. Proceeds from book sales will go to support pediatric cancer care in Northern Ontario.
